[ARCHIVED] Equalizer Road to be Closed Temporarily

Due to construction related to the Levelland-Oxy Sports Complex a portion of Equalizer Road will be closed for the next three to four weeks. The area closed to thru traffic is between Highway 385 and West Avenue.

"The sewer main being extended along Equalizer Road to serve the sports complex is over twenty feet deep," said City Manager Rick Osburn. "Because of this depth the equipment used by the contractor is very large and there will be a huge volume of soil removed from the trench. We feel it is unsafe to allow the public to drive just a few feet away from this major project."

"Deerwood Construction is the contractor installing the sewer main," said Director of Public Works Pat Riley. "They have done projects for us in the past and they always do a great job. We believe they will work quickly and get Equalizer reopened as quickly as possible."

According to the contractor the only known factor that could delay the reopening of the road is the weather. Any significant rain or snow could delay the work, thereby delaying the reopening.

Access to the Mallet Event Center for the public will be through the Center's main entrance off of Highway 385. The service access to the arena and exhibit hall will remain open but must be accessed from the west via West Avenue .
