Dr. Joseph Gould, who lives in Alpine and practices podiatry in several communities, will be available to meet patients in Levelland every Tuesday starting Oct. 16, 2007. He is sharing office space at Willmon Chiropractic Clinic, 219 B Cactus Drive.

A native of Arlington, Gould was an accomplished carpenter and earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering before answering a call to medicine more than 15 years ago. He received a master’s degree in biomedical science from Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida. He then studied podiatric medicine at the Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine before doing a year’s residency in podiatric primary care in Pennsylvania. He completed a two-year podiatric surgical residency in Monterey Park Hospital in Los Angeles, Calif.

It was after living in such large cities as Los Angeles, that he decided to never again live in one. He eventually moved to Alpine where he opened his podiatric practice. Since then, he has opened an office in Odessa, and he also practices at a clinic in Snyder one day a week. Gould became interested in Levelland while looking for another office site in West Texas.

“I’ve gone to every little town in West Texas, and I went through here and looked at Brownfield,” he said. “This one is the right size. It has the mix that I’m looking for in a community. It has a mix of industries. I like a small town environment. “I do Star Trek. I want to go where no podiatrist has gone I look for hometowns.”

While he does podiatric surgery, Gould says he first tries to treat patients’ feet through therapy. “I do the whole range. I try to exhaust therapy,” he said. “The more you know, the more you want to mitigate the problems without going to surgery.” “What I hope to do is convince people that you don’t have to drive to Lubbock to get good podiatric treatment,” he said.
